Landscapes
Mountain light, still water, and ground earned on foot — from the Cascades to the Yukon.
Trespass 2026
Thrall, Washington
At an October sunrise, Chris photographed the old Thrall station straight on, its canopy and columns framed in black and white. The No Trespassing sign seems optimistic given the building’s condition, but unknown histories and untold journeys remain.
Silver 2026
Yakima Canyon, Washington
With heavy clouds forecast during an October trip through Yakima Canyon, silver sunlight drew Chris to the riverbank. Four silhouettes fish against the afternoon sky and basalt canyon walls.
Glacier 2020
Hidden Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana
During one of four cross-country drives in 2020, a hike from Logan Pass revealed Hidden Lake, out of sight from Going-to-the-Sun Road. After isolated thousand-mile days, this was a place to sit and stay a while.
Yukon 2026
Tutshi Lake, Canada
The day after their wedding, Chris and Michelle stopped at Tutshi Lake. To see beyond the roadside brush, they raised a camera on a fifteen-foot painter’s pole: Michelle held and rotated it while Chris framed the lake and mountains remotely.
Mirror 2026
Mirror Lake, Misty Fjords National Monument, Alaska
Mirror Lake can be so still that floatplane pilots watch the shoreline trees to judge their landing altitude. Chris and Michelle flew here from Ketchikan during their honeymoon, arriving at a dock serving one of the cabins that predates the monument.
Snow Bridge 2026
Lake Wenatchee, Washington
Snow and low light make this color photograph appear almost monochrome. On a late-winter snowshoe hike with his daughter, Chris left the bridge’s tint untouched to reflect the quiet snow of the Cascades.
Snoqualmie 2026
Snoqualmie Falls, Washington
On his first long-distance aerial photography outing, Chris launched about a mile down the Snoqualmie River. A turn of the camera revealed the falls with Mount Si in the distance on a clear early-spring day.
Lake 2022
Lake Twentytwo, Mount Pilchuck, Washington
Lake Twentytwo in ’22, with snowpack still lining the climb to the outflow. The bright contrast of the clouds recalls snowmelt and icefalls cracking and echoing from the cliff face.
Stark 2023
Clyde, Washington
An editing accident while proofing Alone 2023 revealed the strong tonal contrasts of this abandoned house in Clyde, Washington. Stark is a distinct interpretation of that same original photograph.
