Cityscapes

Neon, architecture, and everyday icons — stories found in the places we build.

U-District 2026

Seattle, Washington

Print

After a U-District art walk, Chris watched the Seattle skyline from the Mountaineering Club on the Graduate Hotel rooftop. A crisp image was deliberately defocused in the studio, making the city both recognizable and unknowable.

Modern 2025

Aquebogue, New York

Print

The Modern Snack Bar has been part of Aquebogue since 1950, close to where Chris grew up. Its iconic midcentury sign was photographed from Main Road on an October evening.

Pike 2025

Pike Place Market, Seattle, Washington

Print

Leaving an art walk in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood, Chris was struck by the momentary emptiness of Pike Place and its angular neon jutting in different lines and angles.

Palm Springs 2022

Twin Palms, Palm Springs, California

Print

On an architecture tour in the Twin Palms neighborhood, a retro Atomic Age home revealed a collection of midcentury cars, including this 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 in Turquoise Mist.

Sequim 2022

Sequim, Washington

Print

During a visit to the Olympic Peninsula, this station just east of downtown Sequim was an obvious subject. Chris’s father worked for Texaco for almost twenty years.

Trulock’s 2020

Cross-country journey, United States

Print

On a solo cross-country drive in August 2020, a stop for gas revealed this station instead. It recalled Edward Hopper’s Gas and Chris’s father’s nearly twenty years working for Texaco.
